Prince suffered a catastrophic breakdown at Woodbine on
November 7, 2009, and we remember him on the memorial. Says his breeder: "He was a great favourite of my daughter Gillian, and it has broken all of our hearts that he will not eventually be returning to his birth-place." Gillian wrote these words of love and loss:
Warmth rushes in, when cold whips out,
Winter turns to spring and summer fades to fall,
It is changes we feel, that causes the greatest pain of all.
What happens when the cold floods back in?
What happens when seemingly there is not spring or summer?
Eventually clouds will cover sunny skies,
Causing a pain that makes cold winds cry.
Told to be strong and the pain won’t last long,
A Prince will arrive and make paradise skies.
Prince is beautiful, strong and wise,
An angel’s soul in disguise.
Spring follows a dark winter, and summer follows that welcomed spring.
A long awaited Prince brings happiness to those who are in need,
Only for a short while because we are taken over by greed.
Our happiness will be short lived,
For Prince cannot stay among the humans for too long
We will feel the change that causes those intense pains,
But we must remember Prince’s love for his friends.
And that will make the warm rush back in.
He will soar in the paradise skies,
Looking down on his friends, comforting their cries.
“To be princely, is to acknowledge the greatness in yourself,
And to pass it on to those who do not know they possess greatness.”
~Gillian, November 2009
